Dude Perfect Birthday Party

Dude Perfect Birthday Party Games- after searching a lot on google and piecing together some different things I found, here’s a one stop shop to plan a fun birthday party in your backyard for upper elementary-young middle school aged boys.

First, the decorations:

I kept it pretty simple. I used my silhouette to cut out a dp logo and glued to black foam board. I often make a banner for the boys’ birthdays but this year chose to simply buy this back of banner + balloons on amazon. (you can find it here) (*assoc. link)

Happy birthday to our wonderful first-born son. Oh, how we are so beyond grateful you are in our family!

I also made a dp banner by simply buying 4 feet of black fabric and putting the logo, cut out of vinyl onto it.

Traditions:

Every year since C was 3 (and for each of his younger brothers from age 3+) I line up objects that go with their theme and take a picture of them beside it. For Dude Perfect, we thought it was a good idea to do a combo of random sports items.

It’s hard to believe this precious son of ours is already nine! It seems like just yesterday he was a nine day old. And oh how those early days were beautiful, but incredibly hard with a severely colicky baby! But, oh how I am so grateful that motherhood comes in seasons. The one with him is a pretty sweet one right now.

The Games:

First, we actually went to a local park and played Gelly Ball. A local Game Truck company will come and set this up with obstacles and a game warden will run 4 games. The boys had a blast, and we were so thankful after rain forecast all day, it was absolutely perfect weather. Then we headed back to our home for a “come and stay late” party. Since my daily life is a bunch of boys (four sons!) that quickly turn into what I endearingly call my #ballofboy, I knew we needed to have a plan. We ate a quick dinner of pizza, hot dogs, fruit and chips and then I passed out the score sheet name tags (I laminated them, hole punched them and attached to lanyards). We explained that we would compete in 9 Dude Perfect Birthday Party games- 6 outside and 3 inside. At the end, we would tally up the stickers (each star sticker= 100 points) and that person would get to choose first from the prize bucket. I also wanted to encourage the boys to build one another up and encourage one another so I told them I was looking for a Good Sportsmanship award as well. I think this really helped motivate them to cheer one another on as they competed.

You can actually buy your own gelly ball guns. This would be a great gift idea for an 8-13+ year old boy. Find one here (associates link).

Dude Perfect Party Games:

You can get the dude perfect birthday party games pack on etsy here.

The outside games are pictured below:

Outside:

  1. Basketball Ball Trick Shot:

First we started with Basketball Trick Shot. This one was simple. We lined the boys us behind a line in our driveway and told them they had 5 chances to make a shot (backwards). If they did, they’d get 100 points (1 star). They could choose the little goal for 50.

2. Water Bottle Flip:

The boys each had their own water bottle (I used mini ones I labeled with this Dude Perfect Water Bottle Label). They could drink some to make it the right weight. They then had 5 flips. I made the landing pad out of posterboard. I used a pot lid to trace a perfect circle for the innermost circle- 300, then 200 then just on the board at all 100.

You can get these water bottle flip labels at my etsy shop here. Total Dude Perfect Birthday party pack here.

3. Air Tails

We bought this game on amazon (it’s a dude perfect nerf game), but you could easily use bean bags and draw circles on the concrete with sidewalk chalk. We made the circles further away worth 200 points and the ones closer 100 points each. Each boy had 3 chances to toss a nerf tail.

We then headed to the backyard for the other outside games:

4. Frisbee Toss

We got the Dude Perfect Frisbee as one of my son’s birthday gifts. There is a game you can buy, but after reading reviews, we just used our trash can. We gave 200 points (2 stars) for getting it in the trashcan and 100 points (1 star) for hitting the trash can. Each boy got 5 tosses.

5. Football Toss

This game was another birthday gift to my son. We got him a football net (you can find one here) (associates link) but even if you don’t have a net, you could easily make a hoop for kids to toss into using two pool noodles on stakes and one made into a circle duct taped between them (I did this when C was 1 because he’s always been obsessed with balls and I didn’t want to spend a lot of money then). We awarded stars based on the number hole the football went into and each boy had 3 tosses.

6. Candy Toss

For this game, we paired the boys up and there was a thrower and catcher in each pair. The thrower stood at the fence and faced it (threw the candy backwards). The catcher had a bucket and stood maybe 15 feet away. The thrower got 3 pieces of candy and each catch counted as a star for both members of the team.

Then we moved inside for some games (as it was getting dark). Side note, I recreated most of the pictures as to protect everyone’s privacy. These are pictures of my own kids.

7. The Bean Transfer

For this game, I gave each boy a cup of 20 beans, an empty cup and his own straw. We did sets of 5 boys and it was a race to see who could transfer them first. The first place got 3 stars, 2nd 2 and 3rd 1.

8. Pea Record

This one each boy could use his same straw and then blow a pea as far as he can in one breath. Measure how far each pea goes using a measuring tape and then award stars to the first, second and third place. We ended up having to skip this one during the party due to time.

9. The Ping Pong Trick Shot (using a Pringles Can)

I made backboards for each pringles can (you can get them here). I labeled each can with points and gave each boy the opportunity to use 5 balls to make his shots. He was awarded stars occassionally.

Score Cards

The score sheets doubled as name tags. We had each boy count his stars and then it was time to award prizes. Side note- sometimes mama, we just need to let things go. I usually make the boys cake from scratch (fondant and all) but this time I just ordered a cake form cotsco and then made the d p out of fondant to go on top. I think it turned out just as nice and saved me hours of time and everyone loved it. Prizes

I filled a bucket with random prizes. Some ideas are listed below:

five and below (remote control airplane is from there)

football

kinder eggs

lego

hot wheels

paper football games

pop and catch toys

And we couldn’t end the night without a little Wheel Unfortunate

ned wheel unfortunate

Some not too unfortunate wheel unfortunate ideas: baby food, ketchup popsicle, draw a beard on your face (I used an expo marker), win $1, get cheeze whizzed, pie in face (used whip cream and had boy wear goggles), keep wipes and towels near by. I made a tub with all necessary items in it because I know with a bunch of boys it’s during transitions where chaos often ensues.

We ended the night by watching a little dude perfect before parents came to pick up! If you try these party games for your son’s birthday party, I hope you enjoy them as much as we did!

Blessings

Ashley
