Our Farmhouse Kitchen

Our breakfast nook

When we saw our house for the first time, the kitchen definitely caught my eye. My realtor knew I would LOVE it, and she was right. I was SO happy to see that the seller had chosen things I actually would have picked out myself when he redid the kitchen! It was a huge gift after enduring having our house on the market for 3 months (while being pregnant and taking care of a 1 and 2 year old) and having 3 contracts fall through which caused us to lose our contingency offer on our “dream” home. Needless to say, never move pregnant with toddlers.

The only thing I was sad about was that we had to part ways with our farmhouse table. It was beautifully made like our dining room table (read more here) from Simply Southern Decor. But there was no way it was fitting in this small space. So I set out to find a round table that could sit 6. I researched every single night for probably 2 weeks- reading review after review until I was so confused. I finally decided to go with this table- you will never guess where it is from?!

Wait for it……

Home Depot! You should grab one right now- the price is currently 200 dollar cheaper than what we paid! Get it here.

I know?! Crazy? Right? I had read some reviews about how it is hard to clean the top, that is was “rough” or that food easily could get stuck. I decided to take a chance and I am SO happy I did. I think the table is GORGEOUS. It is exactly what I pictured for the space and fits it well. It is also a fraction of the cost of the one I really wanted from Restoration Hardware.

Afraid your kiddos are going to ruin your not quite finished wood-top table? Glass for the win! Super easy to clean, and this Mama is free of worry that her kiddos are going to mess up her beloved table by simply being kids.

And a simple solution to the “rough” top that really isn’t all that rough- a glass top. It does change the look a little, but for right now with a 3, 3 and under, it is worth it for my sanity. I may finish the wood top later with something else (I still have to read up on what is safe, as it already has some sort of coating) and take off the glass.

The chairs are from IKEA (find them here). At first I wasn’t sure about white chairs with a wood table, but this way I didn’t have to worry about matching them perfectly, and I like the fresh white color. They were also super easy to put together and economical. A win-win.

The kitchen sign is from my favorite, Hobby Lobby. It was hanging above the entrance to our kitchen in our old house. When we moved, I was sad because we lost so much wall space. However, I didn’t want to part ways with this kitchen sign and decided  on a whim to hold it up above the window. It looks like it was made for the space. Simple joy!

The curtains are my favorite, again, from IKEA (find them here).

I was so excited to have WHITE subway tile, light granite and a FARMHOUSE sink!! (I would have probably not gone with a stainless one, but I still love it)

I got this box planter off of Etsy a few years ago to go on our buffet, but when we moved it fit so perfectly here so it has a new home. I love changing out the flowers for seasonal decor.

DIY wreath- I bought a cheap wreath from Hobby Lobby and a half-off floral greenery. I cut some off and stuck them in place. easy, peasy. The wreath ribbon is hanging on a command hook (hung upside down) on the back side of the door.

Clearly, we don’t have enough “art work” . This spontaneous purchase from Kirklands has been a favorite of the boys. They are always so proud to have their work displayed.

We still have some things to do, like add hardware to our cabinets, but I am ultimately so thankful for our open kitchen!

Update:

Here is a picture of the hardware we chose. I love how such a small change can make a big difference:
