About the Author

Hi friends! Welcome to Mama Needs a Manual. I am so glad you stopped by.
I am Ashley. Wife to Bryan, Mama to Caleb, David and Ethan (yes, we are ABCDE). I am also a daughter of God, saved by His grace alone. I love coffee, crafting, baking, and curling up on the couch with a good book. Most days are spent chasing our kiddos around and being active whenever I get the chance. I am a professional problem-solver by trade.
A former Calculus teacher turned stay-at-home mom, this blog has become my new “classroom” where I share practical trouble-shooting advice, tips and encouragement. May this be a grace-filled space where you know you are not alone in the trenches!

Thoughts on Motherhood, 9 months in

(Originally written July 2015) This month Caleb has started throwing mini tantrums when he doesn’t get his way or if we take something away from him we don’t want him…

Do the Hard Things, Even when it seems like you deserve a medal for keeping everyone alive for the day

    April 2, 2018 /

Sometimes as parents we have a whole fun day planned. We’ve looked up the free events in our community and packed the bags and planned the meals and we are excited to show our kids the day. We just cannot wait to get our little ones dressed up and out the door, ready for an adventure. But, somehow it never…

What do Jesus and Easter Egg Hunts Have in Common?

    March 28, 2018 /

Driving home from our Easter Egg Hunt Playdate this morning, I heard the song, Come to the Table for the first time. With my 3 little men in the backseat, not all crying for once (hooray!), I was able to hear and think about the lyrics. This Holy Week, they have even a deeper meaning as I ponder what it…

    D’s Daniel Tiger Birthday

    March 28, 2018 /

I am so incredibly thankful for PBS’s Daniel Tiger. Seriously. With 3 little ones at home, I have been so very grateful for a show that the older two can watch occasionally (or maybe a little too much lately) while I tend to their baby brother. I love the shows’ catchy, although sometimes slightly annoying, jingles and the lessons on…

Ethan is 3 months old, and he finally has a crib! Hooray! Again, things are so different when you are on your third kid. With the addition of his crib, his nursery is finally complete and I’m excited to share it here. If you are anything like me, when you are in need of some inspiration for decoration, you go…

    Resurrection Eggs and The Gospel

    March 22, 2018 /

Spring is here! The sun is shining. The weather is so beautiful I cannot help but want to be outside as much as possible every day because I know soon enough the temperature will be approaching 100 and we will not be able to last very long without being in the shade. But these last few weeks have been so…

    E’s Birth Story 12.18.17

    March 22, 2018 /

Here we are 3 months in, and I am finally making time to write down Ethan’s birth story, but #thirdchildproblems, right? For those of you who have known me for a while, you know my history with long/difficult labors- (read Caleb’s story here and David’s here) and that I had high hopes of being able to have a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After…

Lions, Tigers and Bears…Blow Outs, Flat Tires and Traffic Oh My!

    March 22, 2018 /

For the last couple of months both of the big boys have been asking almost daily if we can go to the zoo. We have patiently waited until Ethan was a little older, the weather was actually good, Bryan could take a day off and everyone was well. Finally, today was the day! I packed lunches last night and this…

    Can I see?

    March 22, 2018 /

“Can I see?”, a question I get asked quite often by my sweet 3 year old. The most recent of which occurred on the way to story time this morning. We had some overdue library books to return and Caleb asked me if we remembered to bring them. I told him we had and that they were in the…

    When God Speaks

    March 22, 2018 /

He will quiet us with His love I remember years ago hearing someone talk about how when God created the world He chose to speak everything into existence (aside from man, which He formed with His hands). Think about that. He could have done something else, but He chose speaking as His primary agent for creation. Christ is also known…
